NELSON'S COLUMN
Just been looking at the very first NELSON's Column for inspiration and noted that I was commenting on my Father's age (late 70's)whilst still working at NELSON's.
Now I am about to do it again, only this time the comment is about myself.
This month I was 80yrs of age (15th March) and the month was full of surprises.
First family and friends gave me a surprise party, over 60 people came to wish me well.
Then a major customer visited us, we went to dinner in a restaurant that displayed dozens of clocks and low and behold the dessert course was a birthday cake, difficult to believe but they actually sang "happy birthday".
Finally but not least, my workforce at NELSON gave me a surprise presentation.
The whole proceedings were very emotional.
I keep thinking of retiring, but I enjoy work, so not this year.
Forgive me if I look backwards today, you see I still remember the first computer we purchased (1970) at NELSON's. Actually it was a punched card machine. We had our Catalogue on it. What a relief it was to buy a real computer (1978) with 16 whatsits, then 32, then 64, now thousands.
I was looking through our brake hose samples last week, during my walk and talk with the workforce routine (many of them have been here over 15years) and was noting how complex modern hoses are. When we first started in 1948 (not me I bought the company in 1976) a brake hose consisted of male and female ends and a straight bit of hose. Makes me think that perhaps the brake hose is the last piece of the car to be designed.
Oh well it keeps the wolf from the door.
Please enjoy the new website, I hope that you find it useful.
